# REDEFINING SUSTAINABILITY

HAIKURE is focused on reducing

our IMPACT on the ENVIRONMNT.

From using ORGANIC COTTON

to REDUCING our WATER usage

and keeping our production in ITALY,

the environment is core

to the CHOICES we make.

1. USING ORGANIC COTTON OR BCI COTTON
Cotton growing uses more chemical substances than any other crop; 10-16% of all pesticide use worldwide. That is why we use organic or Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) certified cotton. This reduces the risk of water contamination and encourages greater biodiversity.

2. USING LYOCELL: AN ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIAL
It’s a material extracted from wood, more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen. Its production uses less energy / water than cotton and is biodegradable. It is a closed-loop system that recycles the solvents used to turn wood pulp into fibre.

3. REDUCTION OF WATER USAGE
During washing, our suppliers wash the denim at a very low temperature on short cycles. This reduces the amount of energy / water needed. For dyeing our suppliers use innovative methods that can save up to 35% water usage compared to normal processes for a single pair of jeans.

4. REDUCING WATER POLLUTION
Our Suppliers use organic approved products in the jeans washing process to minimise impact on water sources. For finishing they also use ozone technology to control the clue colour, using 80% less chemicals than normal.

5. GOTS
GOTS is the standard for production, processing and manufacturing of organic fibres. Only textile products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibres can become GOTS certified. Chemical inputs must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria, social criteria also apply.

6. BETTER COTTON INITIATIVE MEMBERSHIP
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a non profit organization focused on promoting more sustainable cotton production, with less impact on the planet and promoting biodiversity. You’ll find the Better Cotton logo on a majority cotton product if the member organization sources at least 10% Better Cotton.

HOW DO
WE REDUCE IMPACT?

DISCOVER OUR GREEN SELECTION

The impact of your
DENIM on the environment continues after you buy them. The second most carbon-intensive stage of the denim lifecycle is how you CARE for it. This accounts for 37% of total carbon emission. You can RECYCLE your jeans instead of throwing them away.

1. WASH WITH COLD WATER
Washing your jeans with cold water can reduce the carbon footprint of your laundry by 69% compared to hot water . Set your washing machine to 30℃ or lower to make these savings.

2. HANG DRY YOUR JEANS
Hang-drying your jeans rather than using a tumble dryer can reduce the carbon footprint of your laundry by 65%. So next time you do a wash let them hang dry in a warm environment.

3. RECYCLE YOUR JEANS
Only 20% of all clothes are recycled every year, the rest goes to landfill or an incinerator. You can reduce this waste by recycling your jeans. Although your household recycler will not recycle denim you can research options in your local area.
