We’re barely into the Summer of 2019 but the savviest of fashion forward-thinkers are looking ahead to next year, where we’re soon to be embracing all manner of surprising trends.
It doesn’t get more retro than a slick of suede, and according to the SS20 Resort runway, we’ll all be harking for a hint of nostalgia. From mustard-hued suede shift dresses at Jil Sander to an altogether more statement-making shade of turquoise at Alberta Ferretti, the season ahead is saying yes to suede.
Sweeter than sweet, candy pink looks set to be the colour of SS20. With Pierpaolo Piccioli at the helm, Valentino showed a saccharine two-piece in luxe candy floss satin, complete with feather trim, and floor-length swathes of striped silk in every shade of pink. Elsewhere, No.21 showed sculptural pop-pink dresses and Fendi presented models in head-to-toe pink looks which served as playful accents amongst the dark, rich colour palette.
Back to Bermuda.
The long-line short is back for SS20, with crisp, tailored bermudas taking centre stage on the runway at the likes of Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Worn high on the waist and tightly belted, the way to wear them is with edgy separates. Slouchy tees or a tight bustier will remove that yacht-club vibe that was left firmly behind in the 80s.
Button up with military-inspired outerwear and shirting for SS20, as seen at Colovos, Prada and Chanel. Imagined with a relaxed, slouchy aesthetic, patch pockets, gathered waist belts and sharp collars all have echoes of military references. Choose muted and understated hues à la Colovos or go blush pink in the style of Prada.
