Dogwoof, a leading film distributorin the U.K. (“Dries”, Bill Cunningham New York”, “Dior & I.”), is set to release a documentary on VivienneWestwood's journey next January during the 2018 Sundance film festival. The documentary by Lorna Tucker, titled Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist”, contains interviews with her collaborators, friends, family (including her son Joseph Corré) and tells the story of a true icon, a woman known for speaking up for what she believes in.

Her artistry and environmental activism make a political and social statements also in the fashion establishment. Nearly every one of Westwood’s Red Label runway shows is underscored by the message of climate change, which she decries on everything from tops to totes - she even shaved her head in 2014 to help bring awareness to the subject. The British designer is also on the list of PETA celebrity supporters, the association founded in 1980 and dedicated to establishing and defending the rights of all animals (watch her video here).

Vivienne received an OBE in 1992 and was made a Dame in 2006 but made her name doing it when she and then-husband Malcolm McLaren opened their shop, called Sex, on the King's Road in the 1970s and created an aesthetic which gave identity to the punk movement.

Tucker, the film director who has previously produced short films for Westwood as well as for brands such as Nike and Alexander McQueen, said she wants to dig deeper into Westwood’s struggle to success and her intimate relationship with Malcolm McLaren during the Seventies. A blend of newly shot observational footage and old archival shots. Chaos and creation.

Across the U.K. and Ireland on March 23.
